Do you need to keep your car parked outside on the driveway because you garage is so full of clutter, so dirty and messy that you are hardly able to get in there yourself? This room is designed to store your cars or trucks and is not really designed for any other purpose so you know that it is well past time for a garage cleanup.

When you are attempting a garage cleanup after a considerable period of inactivity, you must come up with a plan of action. Undoubtedly you will find that it has become a dumping ground for all kinds of clutter that you can’t find a good place for inside the home, your Christmas decorations, gardening paraphernalia, unused furniture items, those must have pieces that you found at a local sale and a variety of chemicals and cleaners.

Your garage cleanup plan begins with any large items. If you have a couple of unused pieces of furniture, you need to get rid of those. You obviously do not have room within the house, or they clash with your decorating style, so donate them to charity and get someone to pick them up right away.

When you have purged the larger items that are in your way during your garage cleanup, you will be able to move round and put all the other items into separate and distinct categories. The largest category would be for trash, but there will be other piles for recreation, holiday or Christmas stuff, garden tools and chemicals and finally memorabilia.

Consider putting up cabinets and special racks on each of the three walls in your garage. Once you’ve sorted out what you’re going to keep as opposed to what’s being thrown out, you’ll find that you are able to compartmentalize and categorize so much more efficiently.

Underneath all those items that you have just moved from the floor will probably lie layers of grime, oil stains and chemical spills. This is one of the most unpleasant tasks of a garage cleanup, especially when you find the stains are ingrained. So, in the future make sure that you have absorbent mats in places where ever spills may occur.

Try and avoid having to endure a garage cleanup in future by thoughtfully placing all items that you want to store away. On the floor, place absorbent mats beneath the cars and anywhere stored items might spill. These mats are specifically designed to absorb up to a gallon of liquid at any time and are extremely durable. They may be washed, dried and replaced and will save you having to get down on your hands and knees to try and scrub up those stubborn oil stains.

If you want to make your house more enticing to visitors, give them room to park their cars. Your vehicles should be in the garage where they are supposed to be, allowing room for those periodic guests. The garage cleanup can have extra positive effects.
