To remove the drill stem from the drilling hole, or to “Trip Out”, on a rig with a kelly systemcrew members fit the slips around the stem of the drill, break the kelly and then set it, the kelly drive bushing and the swivel back in the rathole. Still, attached to the very bottom of the hook are the elevators. The driller would then lower the traveling block with the elevators to the point where crew members could latch the elevators onto the pipe. The driller raises the traveling block, thus raising the elevators and pipe, and the floorhands of Heartland Energy Colorado remove the slips.
Using energy in our homes seems so invisible to most of us, but it’s actually a pretty major source of greenhouse gasses. If you’re interested in saving energy in your home, there are several key steps to starting and updating the process as you trim your energy budget.
-Get an energy audit, or Do It Yourself (You can start with an energy conservation plan that you can download right now.) Its called “The 7 fastest Ways to Save Energy Now” and its on the right side of the page. You’ll also find information on energy efficiency at home on the site.
-Collect your billing history for electricity and heating costs. This will be critical to show how much your annual costs have decreased after taking new steps.
-Define your ‘Building Envelope” or “Thermal Boundary”. This is the perimeter of your house from the foundation on up to the roof that separates your indoor ‘conditioned’ space from the outdoors.
-Perform a house pressure test to see where the biggest leaks are in the envelope. (The energy audit link above can provide details for this and other processes mentioned in this article.)
-Check your insulation to see how much is in the attic to start with. The Dept. of Energy suggests an R-36 rating, which is about 15″ of insulation.
-Check all your electrical appliances with a ‘Kill-a-Watt’ energy monitor to find where the ‘phantom loads’ are sapping your energy dollars.
-Check your heating and cooling appliances (i.e. furnace and air conditioner) to make sure they aren’t in need of a tune up and are clean and functioning properly.
-Do a visual inspection of all your windows. Most leaks are apparent around the frames of windows and doors. If the outdoor temperature is more than 20 degrees above or below the house temp, they will be easier to locate. This will give you a detailed list of leak locations that could use some calk or expanding foam applied.
Switch to Energy Saving Light Bulbs
With energy saving light bulbs costing almost the same as filament bulbs, it makes no sense not to swap over to the more efficient bulbs. If you need an unusual type of fitment you will find if you search, that virtually all types of bulb are available.
Insulate Your Hot Water Tank
Increasing the insulation on your hot tank is one of the best cost effective ways to save energy in the home. It is very cheap and easy to fit and it will pay for itself very quickly. You should expect to save forty pounds per annum.

Data Centers are information factories that run the digital world. They are utilized by just about every segment of the economy including the financial sector, the industrial sector, education, technology and even the web hosting providers. Outside of the US government, companies like Google, Yahoo! and MSN control and maintain some of the most sophisticated state-of-art data centers in the world. Unfortunately, data centers are energy intensive facilities that require tens of MegaWatts of energy to operate. These data centers house hundreds of server racks and networking equipment that are designed to consume more than 25KW of power per hour. Surging demand for data storage is forcing data centers to upgrade to faster and more densely packed server systems. This high density computing environment becomes a great challenge for the cooling system. A typical facility can support approximately 1MW, but instead they are forced to handle power requirement that can be > 20 MW. Nationally 1.5% of US Electricity consumption was attributed to data center use in 2006. That power usage number is expected to double by 2011. Because of the significant data center building boom in the past 5 years, power and cooling constraints in existing facilities are strained and cannot keep up. As a result, the rising cost of ownership is getting out of control. Cost of electricity for computing and supporting infrastructure now surpasses capital cost of the IT equipment.
